Crude reality
I feel the event or issue that inspire the picture is the U.S and British fighting in a war over oil, which leaves the soldiers hurt or dead. The soldier in the picture has a fake leg as the result of the war. The artist used symbolism, irony and labeling to get his point across about the war. The artist put the soldiers sitting on two oil wells to symbolize he lost limbs fighting in the war over oil. The artist used irony by having the soldiers with two limbs and sitting on two oil wells to support him but those oil wells cause him to lose his legs. The artist used labeling to say the soldier lost limbs is a crude reality. From the picture i infer people lose limbs from war, when you win you still lose and oil is not worth a person ability to function like a human-bin. The message of the picture is fighting over oil gets everybody to get hurt. People who are against war would agree with this picture because your humanity should not be taken away from you over something so meaningless . While people who are for war would disagree because they believe you should fight for what you want no matter what you have to do to get it or sacrifice. The artist point of view is against war because, blood is began shed for something that's not important. I feel this picture is persuasive because people shouldn't have to fight in these mindless battles in lose their limbs or even life.
